Brand history: every identity your brand has had, in order
A rebrand should not erase where you came from, or leave the old logo in use. Melon Cut Guidelines keeps each identity your brand has had, shows them on a History timeline with their years, and points anyone on an old version to the current one.

Brand history, step by step
Create the new identity
Make the new logo, colours and fonts as a brand of their own, in the Guidelines editor or with the Brand chat in Melon Cut Design.
Link old to new
On the older brand's Brand tab, set the newer identity as its successor.
Publish
The History page lists both, oldest first, and the old identity's page shows a Go to current version banner.
A timeline of your identities
The History page shows every identity the brand has held, oldest first, each with its logo, its name and the years it was in use. It covers changes of name as well as changes of look, as long as the brand carried on.
Old versions point forward
An older identity's page stays readable, which helps anyone checking past material. A banner on it says it is an older version and offers Go to current version, so nobody mistakes it for the brand today.
Rebrand from Design's Brand chat
When you rework a brand in the Brand chat in Melon Cut Design, you choose how to publish it: as an update, as a new brand, or as the brand's new identity. Keep the old one as an earlier identity and it joins the History timeline.
History you will want later
Anniversaries, press features and then-and-now posts all need the old logos. With every identity on one page, nobody has to dig through archives to find them.

What happens to my old logo after a rebrand?
It stays on its own page as an earlier identity, listed on the History timeline, with a banner pointing visitors to the current version.
Does the history include name changes?
Yes. An identity can differ in name as well as in look, and the timeline shows each one under the name it had.
Where do people find the history?
A History link sits under the logo on the brand's overview page whenever the brand has more than one identity.

People also ask
- Brand guidelines What are brand guidelines? Brand guidelines are the rules for how a brand looks and sounds: which logos to use and how, the exact colours and fonts, the style of its imagery, and the voice and tone of its words. They let designers, agencies, staff and partners make work that looks like the same brand every time, without having to ask.
- Brand guidelines Can AI create a brand identity? Yes. AI can turn a description of a business into a starting brand identity: a logo, a colour palette, fonts and written guidelines. It is fast and useful for exploring directions, but you still decide what fits - review the logo closely, check that the name and mark are free to use, and refine it until it feels like yours.
