Getting started

Should I use an AI design tool or hire a designer?

Short answer

It depends on the job, and many teams use both. A designer brings strategy, original ideas and judgement - worth it for a new identity, a major campaign or print work. An AI design tool is quicker and cheaper for everyday content: posts, stories, product shots and variations. A common setup is a designer defining the brand and AI making daily content from it.

An honest look at what each is good for.

When a designer is the better choice

Building a brand from scratch, a campaign that has to stand out, packaging and print all benefit from an experienced person. A designer asks questions, pushes back and makes decisions a prompt cannot.

When an AI tool is the better choice

Day-to-day content is mostly volume: a post for every offer, a story for every event, the same product on five backgrounds. An AI tool turns those around without a design queue, so a designer's time goes to the work that needs it.

Using both

In Melon Cut, a designer's work can live in Melon Cut Guidelines - logos, colours, fonts and rules - and Melon Cut Design uses those guidelines when it makes content, placing the real logo file instead of drawing one. The identity stays the designer's; the everyday posts come from the studio.
