The shapes AI images come in, and how to get the size you need.
Why generators use fixed shapes
Image models are built to produce a handful of shapes well. For anything else, it is usually better to pick the closest shape and crop or resize afterwards than to force an unusual one.
The sizes Melon Cut makes
Social posts are made larger and scaled down to exactly 1080 × 1350, never cropped, and a wrong-shaped result is retried automatically. Melon Cut works in these fixed shapes rather than custom pixel sizes.
- Pictures: square 1:1, portrait 2:3 or landscape 3:2
- Social posts: 4:5 at 1080 × 1350
- Stories: 9:16 at 1080 × 1920, made as items in a plan
- Vectors: SVG, which stays sharp at any size
Getting a larger file
Upscale doubles or quadruples a picture's width and height (2× or 4×) while keeping it sharp, which helps for print or large screens.
