Editing pictures

How do I change the background of a photo?

Short answer

Use an AI background changer: it keeps your subject, replaces the old background with the scene you describe and blends the two together. In Melon Cut Design, choose Edit, pick Replace background, attach the photo and describe the new scene - "on a wooden table by a sunny window", for example. Up to 8 photos can be changed in one request.

Keep the subject, describe a new scene.

Describing the new background

The closer the new scene's light is to the light in the original photo, the more natural the result looks.

  • The place: a kitchen counter, a beach, a studio wall
  • The light: soft daylight, golden hour, bright studio
  • The mood or colours: calm and neutral, or bold brand colours
  • Anything to leave out: no people, no text

When a plain background is better

For product listings and catalogues, a plain colour often works better than a scene. Product packshot makes a clean, centred shot on the background colour you pick, and Remove background leaves the subject on transparency.

A whole set in the same setting

Because Replace background runs on up to 8 photos in one request, a product range can share the same setting for a consistent shop page or campaign.
